  1. This Thai eatery has earned its reputation as one of Shanghai's best. It's prime location just south of Jing'an temple, romantic candlelit courtyard and long menu of well-executed Southeast Asian classics make it a favorite among locals, expats and tourists alike
  2. Vedas is well known and well loved as one of Shanghai's best Indian restaurants. Stop by for dinner or one of their lunch sets - try their fresh baked naans, puffy parathas, biryanis, curries and vindaloos. Due to its popularity, it's often packed full, so you'll definitely need Chope to book ahead!
  3. We’re loving Shanghai’s steadily growing list of Southeast Asian eateries and with places like Bali Bistro & Balini Coffee, why wouldn’t we? Situated right behind Jing’An Temple, this double-storied restaurant scores points for its great location right from the start, but it’s the authentic Indonesian fare that will have you coming back for more. The natural light flooding in illuminates traditional wood carvings and other paraphernalia that impress diners almost as much as the reasonably priced food. From exotic Ikan Goreng Gurame and Nasi Goreng Gila to the fantastic Nasi Ayam Goreng and desserts like Dadar Gulung, the quality you get will have you surprised you’re not paying more. We doubt you’d be too upset about that though!
  4. This intimate modern Thai eatery on Anfu Lu is part of a clutch of restaurants at the same address overseen by Australian chef Craig Willis (La Strada, Mr Willis and Amokka are all found here too). The menu offers contemporary takes on classic dishes such as seafood yellow curry, chicken satay and fish cakes along with a range of barbecue and grilled options including BBQ snapper and grilled Thai pork sausage. There’s also a good, reasonably-priced wine list.
  5. This sleek and stylish take on Indian cuisine offers up contemporary twists on classic curries, grilled meats and more, along with a range of cocktails, wines and beer, and a fun, modern atmosphere. Expect dishes such as three cheese kofta, tandoori spiced lamb chops, and butter chicken, and drinks including lassi-inspired cocktails.
